Acne is a relatively common disease of the pilosebaceous follicles found on the face, back, chest, shoulders, and even on the upper arms.

Although it is a typical disease of adolescence, it can sometimes last up to 30-40 years, and may appear above this age. In addition, acne can leave permanent marks or scars, so it is important to carry out an early and adequate treatment.

Its causes are unknown, but it is known that various factors are involved, such as hormonal factors, which stimulate the growth and secretion of the sebaceous glands (grease secretion increases), excess scales in the pores and the increase in bacteria such as propionibacterium acne, which causes inflammation and infection.
Although there are mild acnes that can resolve spontaneously, it is not usual. It is important to carry out a correct treatment early to avoid the appearance of permanent marks.

We usually begin treatments with non-aggressive procedures, including specific superficial peeling, laser treatments and photodynamic therapy or PDT (Photodynamic Therapy) in its acronym in English.

The vast majority is usually cured with both topical and oral treatments in some cases. In young women, hormone treatment is sometimes prescribed.

It is important to maintain good skin hygiene and not use comedogenic cosmetics or creams with an excessively greasy base. Some sunscreens and makeup can make it worse. It is recommended not to handle the pimples to avoid infection and residual scarring.
Scars are improved with the use of both ablative and non-ablative fractional lasers.
